1954 356 Super Coupe.
Tip-off that a 356 was the car for me:Only Porsche I could afford and it came in boxes.
My age when I acquired my first 356:24.
Engine type:1600 (replacement engine).
Miles driven per year:500 (just back on road after resto) stored since 1999.
Favorite destination:My shop with its 2 post lift and tools.
Fantasy road trip:Tooling through County Mayo, Ireland again, this time with no accidents.
Most inconvenient mechanical failure:Carburetor fire from a backfire at tollway oasis in 1999. I put it out with the only things handy: a bottle of diet Coke and my shirt.
Car I'd have if I couldn't have a 356:A Ferrari, but I'm too chicken to learn how to work on them and too cheap to pay for engine-out oil changes and belt swaps.
What I like most about my car:It's easy to work on and bulletproof relative to other cars in my collection.
Most unique feature:It's a Pre-A, everything Is unique (aka weird!) To start though, working Telefunken Am/Shortwave radio, opposite sweeping wipers over "bent" windshield, starter button, transparent sun visors, eyebrows over instruments.
Most recent repair:Some knucklehead shortened the shift lever by 6" many years ago. I just re-welded and re-bent it pack to original.
Longest drive so far:Geneva, IL - still breaking it in after resto.
Next project with this car:Kingpins.
