For several years, Bill and Jane Van Nortwick have hosted a fall
picnic for the club at their home in Geneva. For 2008, in his new
capacity as our Events Chairman, Bill took the event to a new level.
With help from Charlie Presta, he secured an invitation for the club to
visit the classic car collection at
Rich Harvest Farms
in nearby Sugar Grove on the morning of the
picnic day. This is an eclectic collection, running the gamut from
a Duesenberg Model J to an Amphicar to a stable of Ferraris and
Lamborghinis. And yes, it does include one Porsche, a 356
Speedster. Remarkably, every car in the collection is kept in
running order and exercised regularly, and the mechanics entrusted with
that job were on hand to show us the cars and to graciously answer all
our questions about them.
After our morning with the cars, we caravanned to Bill's house, where
Jane had a delicious German lunch waiting for us. All told, it was
a wonderful day, and we look forward to doing it again next year.
